Who is Kymber?

I’m an ocean and outdoors enthusiast, a nutrition consultant, certified health coach, biohacker, science nerd, child development specialist, a recovered bulimic, and a highly-sensitive farm girl at heart.

I’m obsessed with healing – my life’s calling. I’m also equally obsessed with small children and the Inner Child inside all us Big People. And lastly, I’m obsessed with the intrinsic wildness in this world.
The wildness in mother nature and in human nature. I believe there is much healing to be found in both.

I was failed by our healthcare system early in life and had to take my health into my own hands. I grew up struggling with mental and physical symptoms for which modern medicine couldn’t address and I had no larger context to place these struggles in.  I found my healthcare through exploring functional and integrative medicine, personal & early child development, evolutionary sciences, anthropology, nature, and creative living.  Through these explorations, I’ve been able to heal long-term battles with body dysmorphia, bulimia, OCD, and have found relief from multiple autoimmune related issues.

Now I coach.

I grew up immersed in the natural spaces of the California coasts and redwoods. This has greatly shaped my approach to healing and my love for the wild, sacred spaces internally and externally.

I believe these wild places are where the deeper healing takes place… which everything else takes flight from.

I live for: the ocean. – a lifelong romance. Science and it’s various applications. Farms, ranches, and all the places which bring us back to our food sources. Eating whole animals and plants like our ancestors did. Self-care. Hot saunas and cold water exposure. Biohacking. Moving my body. Deep connections which surpass words and conversations which can heal the world. Coaching and asking my clients the questions their inner child knows the answers to. Creative living.  Children. Evolutionary and historical perspectives towards health and behavior.

Bone Broth. Coffee. YOU.

What I Do

With an education and career background in infant and early child development, I draw upon all the wisdom accrued in those industries along with over a decade of personal healing work and nutritional science training to create a deeply dynamic approach to healing and to coaching.

Creating Content

Humans have a long rich history of creative expression and I believe this is deeply tied in with our sense of humanity and with all healing.  Part of this brand is about encouraging and inspiring others to heal through living more creative lives.  What creativity looks like is as varied and unique as the colors in nature and there’s no people to better exemplify this than children.  My goal is to inform others of matters relating to health and science, yet to appeal to their inner-child through creative angles.

Living On Brand

Up until recently, I was living like so many in this culture; I was working full-time in a big city, burning the candle from both ends. I’d trained myself to feel burnt-out for so long that this was a familiar state. I knew I needed to make real changes so, when I got the chance to move onto my friends’ 50 acre property and into their TEEPEE, I jumped on it. Now I’m back in my Central Cali hometown – surrounded by cows, horses, rolling hills, crickets, frogs, birds, stars, and childhood surf spots. I’m building a tight-knit tribe, sleeping as much as possible, outside in nature daily, and have given up on leading a mediocre life of survival-based normalcy.  I’m living by the values I advocate for as a coach.

Why Am I Relevant To You

Since I was a small child, I’ve always been highly-sensitiveOpen-hearted, empathic, ambitious, industrious, socially intelligent, stubborn, and resilient as fuck.  And through healing, I’ve come to realize that as an Adult, I am still all of these things.

And what’s more: I bet you are too.

But these strengths are often underutilized because this culture emphasizes the external, the extroverted, and the distracting.  I was born into a culture obsessed with looking perfect, so I took the bait and fought brutally with my own inability to fit this mold. This resulted in chronic illness, body dysmorphia, disorderly eating, and burnout.  I’ve come to see that many people don’t fit this mold and so many people experience one or all of the issues I struggled with.

Here are a few pinnacles which have shaped how I coach:

At age 21, I left my formal career in Early Childhood Education to attend a Holistic Health Practitioner program in San Francisco.

I completed a two year certification as a holistic nutrition consultant, adding to my training and experience in the nutritional scientific community.

By 25, I’d healed myself from an epic 8 year struggle with bulimia – becoming intimate with the cultural and biochemical components to eating disorders which are often neglected in conventional treatments.

My health hit rock-bottom, requiring that I start eating animals again after 4 years as a vegan.  I began doing my own necessary research and fell in love with science.

I discovered the work of Weston A. Price, evolutionary sciences, ancestral health models, and Functional medicine – tying together many important aspects to my journey which before seemed isolated.

By age 28, I was a certified postpartum doula caring for newborns and learning more about infant health, genetics, and potential birth trauma.

Also at age 28, I helped my little sister off heroin while simultaneously losing my eldest sister to the same addiction.  This taught me a lot about addiction, biochemical imbalance, the role of unresolved trauma in illness.

I completed a year and a half long health coaching certification program.  I began mentorship with two medical scientists, fell deeper into the world of biohacking and scientific research.  When I found functional medicine, it was like coming home.

I quit my job in SF and moved back to my hometown in Central California.  I said goodbye to a life designed by anyone else’s standards.  I embraced radical self-care and became obsessed with creative living, croaking frogs, and early bedtimes.

Qualifications & Training

1. Certification Programs I’ve Attended

Integrative Health Coaching

Went through the Institute of Integrative Nutrition program. This gave me a greater sense of what it means to be a coach vs. just a nutritionist and placed a lot of emphasis on the nonfood-related aspects to healing, such as community and lifestyle choices. It also offers lectures from some of the most inspiring leaders in the worlds of health, nutrition, science, personal development, food industry, media, and business – helping us to see the common thread underlying all of these areas of life.

Holistic Nutrition Consultant

Attended the nutrition consultant program through Bauman College – a highly respected nutrition and culinary school located both in CA and online. This program provided a more scientific and comprehensive understanding of the ways which custom tailored whole foods diets can heal the human body from most chronic conditions and the ways to live a preventative lifestyle using the right foods.

Certified Postpartum Doula

After all of my work with small children and infants, I took it to the next level and become a certified postpartum doula. My training included lactation consulting, prenatal and postnatal basic nutrition, and basics of newborn care. This work also taught me a lot about: the important role of the parent’s health when conceiving and birthing a child, genetics and epigenetics, nutrigenomics, vaginal births, breastfeeding, and the power of oxytocin!

Holistic Health Practitioner Program

Upon leaving college in my early twenties, I moved to San Francisco and went through a year-long holistic health practitioner certification program.  This program provided me with the foundations for everything from holistic paradigm shifts in our ways of viewing health to nutrition, aromatherapy, herbal therapies, and touch therapies like massage.

Bulletproof Biohacking Conference

IHH-UCSF Symposium on the Paleo Approach and Functional Medicine

Microbiome Medicine Summit

One of the most exciting aspects to my work is the pace at which science is evolving and the amount of training options available for practitioners to deepen their knowledge-base. Here are two of the health experts I’m currently studying under:

Chris Kresser, LAc

Chris Masterjohd, PhD

What I Stand For

We’re usually raised with a limited sense of what’s possible, of what we can achieve, and of who we are. This creates all kinds of problems and obstacles in our lives. I want to live in a world where we can all create the lives which we truly want and can bust through our unnecessary limitations.

Healing from chronic illness has been one of my greatest teachers and I believe good health is the access point to all growth. I find a lot of value in applying an evolutionary perspective to health, behavior, and cultural issues. I believe it’s our birthright to feel good and to function optimally. Chronic illness and mediocre genes does not have to be our destiny!

We’re all onions. We need all of our layers. The most shallow person has depths we may not be able to see and the most deeply felt person can still focus on shallow concerns. I bring depth to the table and feel most alive in environments where I can access any and all layers necessary. A lot of healing involves digging below the surface – biologically, historically, emotionally, spiritually, psychologically.

A lot of problems in health and society come when we remove ourselves from nature and forget how much we need the earth and natural elements. We need them for basic biological health, but also for psychological and spiritual health. We need the soil, the sun, clean waters, open spaces, trees, rain, healthy oceans, and a connection to the animals we consume.
